Jesus Is The Source

Nov 17, 2024 | Sermons

Dan Murray explores the feeding of the five thousand, a miracle that is included in all four gospels.

The disciples must have been under great pressure when Jesus instructed them to feed the multitude. The temptation and human inclination would have been to think that the task was on their shoulders, like we often feel when faced with great needs of ourselves and others. But ultimately, the result and the responsibility is on God, for He is the Source.

Another thing to note is that this miracle happened during the Feast of Passover. The young boy who gave his entire meal to Jesus became a living parable, as Jesus would give his entire life to feed the multitudes with Himself.

Dan encourages us to fix our eyes on Christ—that the Source of all our needs is ultimately found in Him. Small things in the hands of Christ become sustenance.

And also that our giving is unto Christ himself.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24).
